San Jose Bound

I'm off to San Jose tomarrow and will be shopping for some musical stuff. I'm going to visit the mandolin maker who is making me and a friend custom mandolins. The price is right and from what I saw in his shop the last time I was there the mandolins will be top quality and should sound great. Juan Carlos knows about bluegrass music and is not big of the F model but the A model he's making should be way cool. Juan Carlos spent 15 years in Italy making mandolins, violins and guitars. He showded me a guitar he was making that's made from the salvaged wood from the Hacienda Santa Rosa (if you don't know anything about the Hacianda Santa Rose I'll explain in a later posting). The guitar will cost a little more than $2000 and will be worth every penny of it. Of course the mandolins will not be close to that price. Stay tuned and I'll let you know how the mando sounds.
